There are definitely more than 5 reasons to dine at this fantastic venue and it was hard to cull the reasons down to a mere 5 – but after serious thought, these 5 reasons are standout and deserve highlighting.
1: It’s right in the heart of the city
Zacks Toowoomba is part of the Burke and Wills hotel and a recent refurbishment means that the bistro & bar is modern and spacious with large windows that overlook one of Toowoomba’s busiest thoroughfares, Ruthven St. We decided it was a spot for a casual catch up with the fam or some friends
2: The menu is massive
There is so much to choose from. The entrées include bistro favourites like garlic bread (8.90), Oysters natural and Kilpatrick (19.90 to 39.90) and housemade spring rolls (13.90) I was happy to see some more interesting options too like Pan-fried pork and chive dumplings (11.90) and Roasted beef bone marrow with bacon, onion jam & toasted sourdough (13.90) We settled on the bruschetta (11.90) which was good, quite heavy on the onion though which was fine for us because we love it, but just in case it’s not your favourite keep that in mind. We also shared a plate of flash-fried Salt & Pepper Calamari (13.90) this was served with juicy fresh cut lemon and aioli and the calamari was super crisp and tender.
The service is beyond what we expected
It was so good to watch a well-trained service-team in action. Our waiter Sanjeew was fantastic and I have to say amusing, he really did know the menu and the wine list and he gave us some great tips for main course. Our choices were, The JBS pasture fed eye fillet, served with chunky rosemary and sea salt chips and salad (34.90), the Thai Beef Salad (20.90) and one of the signature dishes from the menu, Herb & Cheese stuffed chicken supreme wrapped in prosciutto and topped with a rich cream and macadamia sauce (30.90) Yum! There is so much to choose from on this menu, you could dine here every day for a month and still not get through the choices.
The specials are pretty special
They do have an awesome lunch time special line up for $14.90. This includes a crispy chicken schnitzel, a Riverina Angus rump and a flash fried Calamari dish all served with salad and fries, good value here for sure
The little things made all the difference
It was great to see the general manager Taylor greeting guests and keeping a watchful eye on the lunch time service. We love that personal touch in any restaurant and he knew a lot of the diners by name. We think regulars have to be a good thing right. The complimentary chicken wings, (that arrived hot and crisp) were also a tasty surprise to snack on while we were selecting our meals. What a nice touch!
Our verdict: We give chef Callum, and the Zacks Toowoomba team full marks for excellent service and absolutely delicious bistro food. Whatever your budget or food tastes you will find something on the menu here that will satisfy even the fussiest diners. To be honest, we can’t wait to go back!
