Jen Shaw is one of my hero’s, I am going to start with that. Her unwavering support of young people in the Toowoomba region who are homeless or facing hardship is simply extraordinary. This woman is tireless, authentic, the real deal!
When I heard Jen was opening a social enterprise café where these young people could learn firsthand cooking & hospitality skills to help them gain confidence and real life work skills I was keen to check it out.
Emerge Café is in Station St right in the heart of the Toowoomba CBD. A former cooking school, this space is impressive to say the least. Large, modern and airy with vaulted ceilings and contemporary work stations all in full view of the cafés dining area.
Open Tuesday to Saturday from 8am to 3pm. Emerge serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and everything in between. They also do catering. Think delicious grazing boxes ready to go. Platters stacked with fresh sandwiches, fruit and wraps for a staff meeting or something more substantial like buffets or home-style BBQ’s, they can do that and more!
The café menu is excellent. Everything from big brekky feasts to fresh made burgers, wraps and housemade cakes, great coffee and delicious sweet treats too. When I visited I couldn’t resist the waffles – these arrived hot and crisp, drizzled with golden syrup, the freshest mixed berries, double cream, ice cream & crunchy nut brittle. Just superb!
The motto of Emerge Café is “Real food, with a side of social good” So I urge you to go there, take your friends, go there because by doing so you will be helping Jen and her dedicated team of volunteers make a difference, and lastly but certainly not least, go there for the food, because the food is good, really good!
Thanks for having us in your kitchen Jen x
