Gips – a Toowoomba Icon

|
Set amongst a tranquil tree lined garden in the heart of the city, this 1860’s Mansion is the home of Gips Restaurant one of Toowoomba’s iconic dining destinations. Because of their excellent service and attention to detail Gips is our “go to” place for special occasions and celebrations. However, Gips is not all about functions. They offer a delicious lunchtime menu that includes share platters and salads like the popular Coconut Poached Chicken and Mooloolaba prawn salad. We tried this recently and the coriander and chilli jam dressing was delicious! Also on the menu for lunch, local Market fish on green pea and fennel risotto cake, a tasty beetroot gnocchi, a steak option and burgers and wraps. You can also choose the daily blackboard special that includes a main course with a matched glass of wine for just $28. For dinner the expertise of executive chef Craig Edser and his creative team really come to the fore. The menu is mouth-watering to say the least and includes dishes like house made Moreton bay bug ravioli, Massaman Duck Curry w sweet potato-coriander samosa, coconut & papaya som tam salad, spicy cucumber-peanut sambal. Their current evening menu also includes Tasmanian Royal Lamb Rack and one of our favourites (pictured) Bunya BBQ Port Tenderloin w smoked kumara puree, winter root-vegetables, crackling, saffron-pear chutney, cider glaze $39 …just superb. Dessert is an experience all of its own at Gips. A few examples include:

COUVETURE CHOCOLATE & HAZELNUT TART – Honeycomb, raspberry gel, vanilla bean & hazelnut ice cream

PORTUGUESE APPLE FRITTERS – Dulce de leche, double cream Chantilly & cinnamon sugar

LAVENDER & HONEY CRÈME BRÛLÉE – Lavender ice cream & almond biscotti

The presentation of a Gips dessert is artistic to say the least and the flavour and texture combinations amazing.

Gips wine selection is extensive, with some new quality Australian wines and some old favourites on the list. The décor is stylishly casual and the staff professional and attentive. Gips is definitely a must try…put it on your list
