Robert Channon 2014 ‘Reserve’ Chardonnay

Straight away you notice the strong straw colour of this Chardonnay. The aroma is full of sweet corn & French oak. This is old school!

The palate has masses of citrus fruit and the same corn flavour found on the aroma. It’s actually more like creamed corn due to the slightly creamy mouthfeel.

Towards the end, the oak kicks in strongly again. It dominates the fruit and adds some grip to the finish. I was surprised to discover it had only spent 6 months in barrel. Such a strong presence for such a short period of time!

Robert Channon’s 2014 Reserve Chardonnay is a heavy set, nutty & buttery wine that comes across a touch broad. I personally would have liked to see a bit more acidity in the mix but this will definitely appeal to the old school chardy lovers.
