There’s more to this club than a round of golf!

We always take a big breath out the minute we step onto the deck of the Toowoomba Golf Club. Established in 1896, there’s a lot of history here, and even though we are keen to try the new winter menu, I can’t help but pause for a moment to admire the lush kikuyu fairways and 100-year-old gums and camphor laurel trees, what a great spot to dine!

The new winter menu designed by Head Chef Katie Phillips is extensive to say the least with everything from small plates to share over a glass of wine, to large plates of hearty winter fare like braised lamb shanks and seafood bouillabaisse. There are also some traditional club style fave’s like fish & chips, bangers’n’mash and steak sambo’s in the mix as well.

Today we decided to test out the small plates menu starting with Carpaccio of Bresaola w fried capers and lemon vinaigrette ($14). The aged beef was sliced wafer thin and highly flavoursome, tender, and not too salty. The vinaigrette was creamy with a zesty bite too, just superb!

Next the chargrilled calamari ($14). We loved the combination of the flash fried calamari with the crunchy sweet baby corn, chilli & garlic. Paired with a glass of Grant Burge Chardonnay ($8) this dish was a highlight.

Hervey Bay scallops were next ($18). These looked so appealing when they arrived at the table and tasted just as good as they looked. The creamy cauliflower puree was the perfect accompaniment to the plump grilled scallops topped w crunchy chorizo crumb and a hint of fresh sage….delish!!

A chilled glass of Drift Sav Blanc ($7) paired beautifully with our next dish Duck Pancakes w shallot ($17). Tender shredded duck on soft fluffy blinis with crisp sliced shallot. Simple and fresh, scrumptious!

Our last dish of the day was the Southern Fried Chicken Sliders ($17) on brioche with crunchy slaw and a spicy handmade chipotle sauce,

I have to say we are big fans of Chef Katie’s style, she has a real passion for creating fresh & modern cuisine and she makes good use of our abundant local produce on this menu. Add this to the picturesque location and you have a unique dining experience!

Try the new winter menu…it’s excellent!
