A recent renovation of the National Hotel in Russell St Toowoomba has given the charming old building a fresh new look so we decided to call in for a quick lunch to check it out. The Reno has created a more family-friendly dining environment at the back of the hotel with large wooden tables and comfy chairs to relax in.
The fireplace is a stunning feature and the addition of a kid’s room just off the dining area, as well as a table tennis table kept the kids busy while the adults enjoyed a drink and checked out the menu which included their popular lunchtime steaks.
We like this place, and are happy to say that as far as pub meals go the National does offer good value for money. On our visit we chose from their Fast Five for $15 menu that offered 5 delicious choices including 200g Rump Steak, Chicken or Steak burger, Chicken schnitzel, Beer Battered Barramundi and a Chicken and cashew nut salad. Beer battered chips on the side cost $2 extra.
The National has a range of your favourite craft beers on tap and a nice selection of Australian wine by the glass to wash it all down.
